Feeling Of Fullness In Throat, Left Ear. Lymohoid Tissue Firm. Advised MRI And Biposy. Reason For Firmness?
Hi. I have been experiencing a feeling of fullness on left side of throat and a feeling of fullness in my left ear for about 2 weeks now. Throat is not sore. Went to an ENT today and he stuck his fingers down my throat and said the lymohoid tissue on the left feels a bit firm. Not a hard ball but firm. He said he is 98% sure it is nothing but is sending me for an MRI and a biopsy for which I need general anesthesia. He claimed he was doing it so I wouldn't have to wonder and that he was only doing the tests to be cautious. What could be the possible causes of this firmness besides the obvious. Had similar symptoms in June but they went away and at that time he did not mention the firmness in my throat just a node he termed "reactive" and 3 weeks later was palpated and no longer there. Please help...I am freaking out.
Hi Thanks for your question. Lymph node on left side of your throat can be simply secondary to allergic reaction or infection in throat. But since it has reappeared second time and consistency has changed and now it is firm, possibility of this firm node to be a lymphoma (cancer of lymph node) has to be ruled out by investigations like MRI and biopsy. Hope this answers your questions.
