Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Medical Abortion, Smoking Marijuana, Pain, Side Effects ?
Tomorrow I will be getting a medical abortion and I m very scared of what will come I.e. pain , side effects, etc. But will smoking marijuana during this process effect it in a negative way?
thank you for your query. smoking marijuana has a lot of negative consequences like harmful effects on your lungs (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchitis etc), brain (psychosis, cognitive decline, amotivational syndrome etc), fetus (congenital malformation). however, it also has analgesic effects for which it is often used in traditional/ indigenous methods of treatment. if you are going for a medical termination of pregnancy, then your gynaecologist will give you medications for your pain relief and take care of your other problems. I would not suggest smoking marijuana in this case if I were to see a patient with similar complaints as yours. hope i've been able to satisfy your query. Please don't hesitate to contact me for any further clarifications if needed. wish you all the best.
