Our grand-daughter has welts/ hives on her stomach bottom and legs. The come out of no where and for the past two days they have cropped up in the late evening. Today they have cropped up in the afternoon and are only on her lower legs. She usually runs a fever when these welts come out and the welts sill all run together to form one large welt. By morning they are usually better. Someone has suggested foot hand and mouth virus . How long can something like this last?
hello,
welcome to hcm
thanks for the query
it may be allergic reaction to a variety of things like foods, medications, irritants such as soap, detergent, clothing material, or grass. they can also get hives during a normal illness such as a cold or fever which probably your case is. Because this is an allergic reaction, you need to observe your child for other signs of a severe allergic reaction such as throat tightness, wheezing, breathing difficulty, or persistent vomiting.if any of these happens then consult the doctor immediately
if she is going in fever you consult the doctor for it.she may need paracetamol syrup and benadryl syrup under doctors advice
hope this information will helpful to you
take care
Hi Stephen,
Your grand daughter probably has some viral exanthem which can be expected to last 1-2 weeks. I would suggest you consult her paediatrician so that the rash can be examined and the proper treatment can be started. The fever can be controlled with sponging with tepid water and Tylenol. Its important you do not give her aspirin as that can cause Reye's syndrome when the child has a viral infection. This can lead to fatal damage to the liver. If the rash is significantly itchy, it can be controlled with calamine lotion and Bendadryl. The dosage of these drugs would depend on her weight and age.
Please see a physician as soon as possible.
Hope this helps
