Pediatrician, Neurology 's  Response
In real terms there is no permanent cure with the medicine. However, more than 2/3rd of the patient usually get seizure free with medication alone. In rest, if a surgically correctable lesion is identified, the cure rate is as high as up to 80%. Please go to the local neurologist with special interest in epilepsy who would guide you to few investigations like
MRI
Video Telemetry
SPECT/PET scan to identify the focus.

So please go for them, lots of hopes are there.
best wishes

Neurologist Dr. Shiva Kumar R's  Response
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.com. 60-70 % of the epilepsies can be cured with medicines alone. Another 30 % requirs either continuation of medicines or require surgery for cure. If you find a scar or tumor or abnormal brain (developmental) these can be removed by surgery after a couple of tests to confirm that these fits are coming from the abnormal part of the brain. These surgeries are very fine and requires expertise. So meet a epileptologist and know if your epilepsy can be cured with surgery. If yes and not controlled with medicines you can proceed for the evaluatiob. Bye

my sister also was epileptic. she is 22 years now. and stopped taking medicines. two years back doctor took EEG test for her and said that she is normal now. so stopped madicines. if you are still takinf medicine then see if your EEG is ok or not, i guess this will solve the problem. my sister is perfactly normal now. she got driving license, will get married in december.

there is no cure for this disease. it can only be controlled. for your liscence there is provision in law when the liscence can be issued so you full fill that law and get the liscence as there is no permenant cure for the fits
