Is There Any Test For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?
My son is 16 and in year 12 and has severe lethargy, sore throat, aches and general unwellness since October last year. Blood tests have indicated that he has Ross River Fever and Glandular Fever antiboides. The remainder of his blood tests were fine, his BP and BSL is fine. Would the symptons he has been experiencing on and off now for the last few months be related to RRF and GF or do you think I should continue with further testing? I am concerned that because I have left the investigation for so long that he may have developed a Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Are there any tests for this? Do you have any advice on the best way of treating the combination of RRF and GF? Grade 12 a busy year and my son has been actively involved in sport, music and is vice school captain. I am concerned about how to manage such a busy schedule when rest seems to be a big factor in treating this type of condition. Thanks for your advice and thoughts on this matter. single antibody test for both RRF and GF is nonspecific so I would advise my patients for a repeat test after 4-6 weeks for increase in antibody titer to confirm the diagnosis. There is no specific treatment for both RRF and GF your GP may prescribe you symptomatic treatment but as both diseases are self limited so these are not a cause of much concern. And there is no specific test for chronic fatigue syndrome , it is a clinical diagnosis , you can consult a Rheumatologist or Internist to rule out other causes and make a diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome
