Are HGH Supplements And Enhancers Safe?

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Feb 2016
Question: Hi I have a question that has been bothering me for a while .. Are hgh supplements and enhancers or boosters safe to use for normal guy like me at 20 years of age with normal amounts of hgh? My concern is regarding a specific formula called "Special inductry height growth" which is sold by what seems like a respectable company which owns a site named hgh.com and they claim that it's safe since all it does is stimulate the body the produce more of it's own natural hgh so they say it's pretty safe also with natural ingredients including growth factors and amino acids .. My concern is if at my age it is safe since my hgh levels are pretty normal and all I want is to make sure I'm always at high levels (naturally) and have maybe just slightly more but no to overdose or something you know just maybe the slightest edge. to gain slightly more height and muscle. I've read serious side effects from hgh injections can happen like acromegaly and such and my questions is whether this product is safe or hgh supplements in general? Again I'm reffering to hgh supplements and enhancers which are sold under the category of dietary supplements and not the black marget injections which I know have serious side effects .. Many reviews I've read before I bought the product said it's a great natural product with no known side effects and in general hgh supplements are relatively safe unlike injections. Really thank you for your awesome help and looking forward to hearing from you - XXXX

While thoroughly looking on the net again many reviews say it's a safe and natural product, but then I found this medical journal that was really hard to find but I did that an engineer named XXXXXXX R. Larsen claims that hgh supplements not just injections can cause acromegaly .. Is it true what do you think?? - XXXX

Brief Answer:
HGH

Detailed Answer:
I follow your question.

Human Growth Hormone boosters/ supplements/ enhancers , and all such products are deemed unsafe by experts in hormone treatment (ie endocrinologists) worldwide.

There are very few and select medical circumstances where treatment with Growth Hormone is warranted. I believe you already know this, as is evident from your comments above. So indeed in these situations ('Growth Hormone Deficiency' syndromes) GH injections are utilised for the purpose of increasing height and building bone and muscle mass.
But I do understand you are referring to the supplements and not the actual pharmaceutical medication. However, even these are unregulated and to my knowledge there is no well conducted long term safety and effectiveness studies on this particular product you have mentioned, in credible medical literature.
So I do not recommend this to any of my patients.
Furthermore, at the age of 20, you cannot expect any increase in height from hGH in any form or for that matter, from any intervention.

I see, well I already own the product so basically my question is what do you think I should do with it can it do any harm if I keep using it for about a month or two till it's finished or just be done with it? You think this product could have raised my gh levels beyond what's normal? Could this have caused or will cause acromegally? Also the product manufacturer states that there are no known side effects and it's made of natural ingredients such as amino accids and growth factors which simply aid in the natural production of hgh and not exceed it .. I am really worried I might have caused damage to me I've been using it for 1 month for now ..

Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed the attachments you have provided.

I would not recommend you take such supplements at all.

There are no systematic studies of robust scientific nature to prove either way, as to whether or not this particular product will benefit or harm you.

But the overwhelming consensus among hormone experts is against such products which can potentially lead to harm.

Do you believe 1 month of this product usage could have done something to me like abnormal growth or such? Won't the natural ingredients and the manufacturer GMP certified be enough to make sure that no harm will be done?

Detailed Answer:
It is hard to say, without running blood tests on you and examining you.

When I see someone like you in my practice, I typically order the following blood tests in addition to a detailed physical examination:

CBC
Electrolytes
Calcium
HbA1c (Glycosylated Hemoglobin = your 3 month glucose average)
Liver function tests
Kidney function tests
TSH
25 hydroxy Vitamin D

You stated that hgh supplements/boosters/enhancers products are deemed unsafe by experts in hormone treatment. I would like to understand how so since basically many of these products and the one I reffered to have completely natural ingredients in them (herbs, amino accids. growth factors) and all they claim is to boost hgh levels within your body naturally .. Alsd to my knowledge there is enough scientific data to show that there are some amino accids like L-glycine, L-Arginine and L-glutamine can have the potential to raise hgh levels in the body and even if some of these products had real synthetic hgh in them it wouldn't be able to be absorbed into the bloodstream since hgh molecules are large ones. My question is how such products which never claim to be real hgh and sold as dietary supplements or more specifically the one I used with natural ingredients in it might cause side effects and what might they be? Maybe it's true this supplement won't help me that much since at my age my growth hormone is relatively high but wouldn't it just make sure my gh levels are always at their best and give me the slightiest and even tiniest advantage? I mean even if there is controversy about gh there are many in the scientific community that do hold claims to it's benefits ..

Detailed Answer:

So called 'natural ingredients' SOLD WITHOUT A PRESCRIPTION are not considered safe by endocrine experts.
Some companies sell human GH pills or GH releasers, claiming that the pills are “anti-aging” substances. But these substances have not been proven to increase the body’s production of GH or to fight aging, increase muscle, or provide other benefits.

Studies of healthy adults taking such GH related products have produced conflicting results. Some short-term studies showed that older adults increased their endurance and strength, with increased muscle and decreased fat mass. But other studies did not show similar benefits. More studies are needed to fully understand the benefits and risks of GH related natural ingredients use in healthy adults.

Data has been limited to research studies. This is not enough for us to make a confident statement that it is fully safe unless large long term rigorous trials are undertaken by the manufacturer.
