Are Heaviness In Lower Abdominal Area And Flatulence Suggestive Of Endometriosis?

Question: In Oct. 2005, I, a (43) y.o. now 54; biracial female underwent a total and complete hysterectomy. removed were the left ovary, the uterus, and the fallopian tubes. The right ovary had been removed in 1990. the reason was heavy menstrual bleeding accompanied by severe and protracted pain as well as fybroids, endometriosis and the suspicion of adenomyosis(sp?). Well the found a great deal of tissue stuck together and stuck to the appendics, which they removed at that time as well. For all this time things seem to hae okay but within the lst six months or so I have been feeling an occasional weightiness in the pelvic or lower abdominal area and I also notice I have a lot of painful flatulence. so, I was wondering could there be a reoccurance of the endometriosis? I think I remember reading of such an instance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Yes, it is possible, although rare.
I would suggest a pelvic MRI to know if endometriosis has recurred.
Also, an evaluation by a gastroenterologist to rule out other possible causes of the flatulence.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.
