Body Tremors, Excessive Perspiration, Low BP, Overweight, Concussion, Dizziness, Cramps. What Do You Think?

Posted on Wed, 3 Oct 2012
Question: Per a previous dr.s opinion I've been looking into autonomic neuropathy. I have body tremors excessive perspiration frequent low bp (as low as 50/70 but 40lbs overweight),when tremors r bad a state of acute concussion a sense of dizziness, general body cramps, trouble with articulation, structural changes to my face (whiting to the lt side with laziness in my smile on right side lips n cheek n cannot arch rt eyebrow), overheat very quickly, very hard time w urination n sometimes swallowing n I'm only34!
Wld like to know possible diseases associated w autonomic neuropathy. Or if one of u has another avenue of dx to consider. I've seen a neuro. Do to lack of insurance was not able tO run tests for difinitive dx. Nero said I had some type of Central tremor n put me on propranolol. Took for 3 mo but felt so nauseas n dizzy that I discontinued. Did pursue essential tremor but my tremors happen when I'm resting , once that I know of while sleeping, an twice in rt leg. None of which are consistent w ET. Also neuro said Central tremor n as we all know ET is not caused by CNS../// so what do ya think?

Hi XXXXXXX,

Thanks for writing in.
I read your letter with diligence.
The possibility for the problems described might be because of autonomic neuropathy. This appears correct, except tremors per se are not the manifestations.

Autonomic neuropathy is a group of symptoms that occur when there is damage to the nerves that manage every day body functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, bowel and bladder emptying, and digestion. Tremors have been rarely seen probably that is why neurologist labelled them central tremors.
Tremor is generally caused by problems in parts of the brain that control muscles throughout the body or in particular areas, such as the hands. Neurological disorders or conditions that can produce tremor include multiple sclerosis, stroke, traumatic brain injury (none of which you have) lastly the list one which you may have.
1. Degenerative diseases that damage or destroy parts of the brain stem or the
cerebellum (the part of brain which controls equilibrium)
2. Use of some drugs (such as amphetamines, corticosteroids, and drugs used for
certain psychiatric disorders),
3. Alcohol abuse or withdrawal, mercury poisoning,
4. Overactive thyroid, or liver failure.
5. Some forms of tremor are inherited, while others have no known cause.
Now we come to treatment:
1. If you are taking alcohol or any other prescription or street drug you ought to
stop that.
2. Take vitamin B complex and folic acid tablets OTC, once a day
3. Eliminate all the "triggers" that cause tremor such as caffeine, being anxious
4. Propranolol is a useful drug for tremors it did not work in your case and I believe
if it aggravated the condition, you did the right thing by discontinuing it.

Surely, if you do not have insurance you can see a doctor and explaining all things get the drugs prescribed without investigation. Personally, I feel that prescription of drugs like Clonazepam by your doctor may help you.

If you have any further query, I will be happy to answer that.

Best Wishes.

Thank you Dr XXXXXXX for your professional assessment. Per my own journey into a dx discovery one word continues to pop up. Mercury poisoning. After reading your post last night I delved deeper into sum related and very informative topics on the matter. Seems plausible but who can tell for sure. The interesting thing and what has Oheightened my curiosity on the subject is he correlation with thyroid damage. My older brother, approx. 10 yrs or so ago was struck with a puzzling and physically altering condition. Ended up being Graves disease. He had sudden onset of paralysis one morning which snowballed the testing n thus led to his dx. He did have the goiter, bulging eyeballs, emaciated appearance etc. I have never seen n e ones appearance change so drastically. At the approx same time my parents and myself and 2 brothers had all moved into a new hom ( new to us only; not by definition). That said my mom had a pair of freshwater discus fish that subsequently died because of the waters ph imbalance. She did treat the water n bought another pair which also were not able to survive. No matter how she treated the water the proper and safe levels were unattainable. After multiple failed attempts at marine life living in her huge fish tank she gave up. To this day she's been unable to have fish due to the unstable ph levels of the water. With in a year or 2 I also went through a life altering faze. My mental and emotional state deteriorated significantly ( mind u I was dealing with the unexpected tragic death of my boyfriend and then the loss of my first puppy love just a yr later). That said I gained some weight that I just cldnt shed and went through a significant cognitive change. One day I remember thinking what happened to me. I felt like I had been chemically altered. Something was so significantly different with the way I processed information. At the same time the tremors began and progressively got worse along with the lack of proper perception. As time went on the dizziness found its way into the consistent yet bizarre symptoms I was having. All that said neither my younger brother, father or mother were affected in a similar sense. My mom did experience a violent onset to what was dx COPD though she smoked only a few months before having children. Dont know if that's a relevant issue or not. During this same period I'd had 2 miscarriages and am now unable to have children. I've underwent the cone biopsy to prevent a serious case of pre cervical cancer. My facial structure is shifting to the left with what seems to be a mild case of peralysis to the right. I have had waking dreams with paralysis. Where I am very much awake but cannot move any part of my body including opening my eyes. Only upon falling back to sleep and hen waking again was I able to shake the paralytic state. Almost as if it rebooted me or something. The additional symptoms I previously mentioned also began to have a concentrated presence as well; ie: urination difficulties, balance, night driving, heat intolerance etc. seems far too coincidental that everyone of these symptoms manifested itself or became intolerable all at the same time. N e who I think that's enough for now. Thank you again for providing such great info. I look forward to you additional thoughts.

Hello,

Thank you for your thought provoking reply. You have had tough life so far I would say.

Mercury poisoning and thyroid disorders are listed as causes to complete the list. From the information provided by you a). For mercury poisoning you do not have setting for the exposure b). You did not come out with any symptoms which would take any physician for the same. Yet, a doctors can examine and unravel some silent feature and then the treatment is easy.
If a person is in constant presence of smoker (jf that was the cause of COPD) one can suffer from passive smoking that is the only correlation between your mother's illness and your miscarriages.
Aggravation of other symptoms, medical science is limited in treatment of most. You can take OTC available folic acid) supplements, which might help.
If you could manage to XXXXXXX a doctor, his clinical examination and prescription based on hard evidence will most certainly help you.

With Best Wishes.

I will dismiss u from any further obligation sir. I regret the depth of info I shared. It must have muddled your ability to understand my intentions. I meant only to give u a detailed hx so as to be thorough n offer u as much info as possible. By no means did I intend to imPly my mothers COPD had any relation to myiscarriages nor was I implying they had n e relevance to anything pertaining to my implied hypochondriasm. I thank you for your rediculous assessment of me and am more than pleased to have paid money to be insulted. By the way that's called sarcasm

Dear XXXXXXX.

I appreciate sharing details at length with me and have nothing but good wishes to offer. I never for a moment thought that my answer about miscarriage as a result of passive smoking will be taken as insult, now it seems that it has been so. I regret that I offended you. That was never my intention. We, as a doctors community, like the patient who tell their history in detail. I assure you never for a moment I thought you were hypochondriac!

Please forgive me for my cruel response. Though it is not you that's caused my lack of faith in drs you got the brunt of my frustration. Undeserving and unjustified. I'd like to additionally apologize for my lack of clarification as well . I mentioned the fish episode as a plausible theory to mercury in the water and a theoretical mercury poisoning triggering the onset of my brothers graves disease. I see now how very unclear I was. The rest of the info was more for hx purposes only. You were very kind and I am uncertain why I took such offense to ur reply. Reading it a second time it seemed straight forward and pleasant. I have for a long time felt like I was having something like a XXXXXXX stroke. The facial issues, speech, cognitive etc can all be explained with that dx. All but the tremors. I have 3times seen a dr and mentioned whatever I thought might be going on. 3 times the drs more or less gave me the same dx I had mentioned! 2 times I was put on meds that ruined my quality of life while taking them. I was trying to avoid leading u into a hypothetical dx by avoiding dx terms and offering only a detailed piece of my symptoms and relevant life events. My reason for the XXXXXXX stroke theory is when I say I have cognitive difficulties I mean I can't remember what my husbands first name is sometimes, I forget what my maiden name was, I can't tell if I'm driving down the right side of the st or freeway, a very familiar and basic word looks odd even though it's spelled correctly. This stuff really freaks me out sometimes! The really bad episodes (ie: can't tell if I'm driving on the right side of the st etc) haven't happened in a while, atleast a year but the acute confusion is still a fairly frequent thing and yes it is ALWAYS accompanied by tremors. However I've found that when I don't feel good I always shake and shake really good. It may be that the Essential Tremor is a dx by itself and merely accompanies the other ailments because I just don't feel good. Either way I'm tired of trying to figure this out on my own. I've been to the d soooooo many times and I feel like I've been hurt more than helped. I do not, I repeat DO NOT, want to be on any medication that causes XXXXXXX fancy unless it is the absolute last resort. I just want to know what it is so I can try and self help myself. You know don't drink the water cause it's poisoned, don't eat that cake cause it's fatty and I'm prone to blood clots etc ..... Again those are ridiculous examples but they get the point across. The only thing I do habitually is smoke and think toooo much lol. I would like to remove those vices as well and I certainly do not care to add any others per scribed or not. I'm fairly healthy. All of my tests always come back normal. Nothing seems to be wrong wih me on paper but I know that for a 34 yr old who is supposedly healthy all of these combined ailments are not normal! Again I am so sorry for lashing out at u. Sick or not it is not an excuse

Hi,

Thanks for writing again.

No, I did not take any offence so there is no need for any explanation. Your thoughts are so insightful that I wish you had physical health to carry out all your wishes.

I understand your feeling about medicines that mess up thought, action and behavior and your desire to discontinue all such medications is perfectly justified. Please do not feel guilty about it. I appreciate your writing to me.

Do follow the advice in my earlier replies if you feel them worthy.

If you have no further query you can close the question and give comments about the service.

With Best Wishes.
