Body Tremors, Excessive Perspiration, Low BP, Overweight, Concussion, Dizziness, Cramps. What Do You Think?
Wld like to know possible diseases associated w autonomic neuropathy. Or if one of u has another avenue of dx to consider. I've seen a neuro. Do to lack of insurance was not able tO run tests for difinitive dx. Nero said I had some type of Central tremor n put me on propranolol. Took for 3 mo but felt so nauseas n dizzy that I discontinued. Did pursue essential tremor but my tremors happen when I'm resting , once that I know of while sleeping, an twice in rt leg. None of which are consistent w ET. Also neuro said Central tremor n as we all know ET is not caused by CNS../// so what do ya think?
Thanks for writing in.
I read your letter with diligence.
The possibility for the problems described might be because of autonomic neuropathy. This appears correct, except tremors per se are not the manifestations.
Autonomic neuropathy is a group of symptoms that occur when there is damage to the nerves that manage every day body functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, bowel and bladder emptying, and digestion. Tremors have been rarely seen probably that is why neurologist labelled them central tremors.
Tremor is generally caused by problems in parts of the brain that control muscles throughout the body or in particular areas, such as the hands. Neurological disorders or conditions that can produce tremor include multiple sclerosis, stroke, traumatic brain injury (none of which you have) lastly the list one which you may have.
1. Degenerative diseases that damage or destroy parts of the brain stem or the
cerebellum (the part of brain which controls equilibrium)
2. Use of some drugs (such as amphetamines, corticosteroids, and drugs used for
certain psychiatric disorders),
3. Alcohol abuse or withdrawal, mercury poisoning,
4. Overactive thyroid, or liver failure.
5. Some forms of tremor are inherited, while others have no known cause.
Now we come to treatment:
1. If you are taking alcohol or any other prescription or street drug you ought to
stop that.
2. Take vitamin B complex and folic acid tablets OTC, once a day
3. Eliminate all the "triggers" that cause tremor such as caffeine, being anxious
4. Propranolol is a useful drug for tremors it did not work in your case and I believe
if it aggravated the condition, you did the right thing by discontinuing it.
Surely, if you do not have insurance you can see a doctor and explaining all things get the drugs prescribed without investigation. Personally, I feel that prescription of drugs like Clonazepam by your doctor may help you.
If you have any further query, I will be happy to answer that.
Best Wishes.

Thank you for your thought provoking reply. You have had tough life so far I would say.
Mercury poisoning and thyroid disorders are listed as causes to complete the list. From the information provided by you a). For mercury poisoning you do not have setting for the exposure b). You did not come out with any symptoms which would take any physician for the same. Yet, a doctors can examine and unravel some silent feature and then the treatment is easy.
If a person is in constant presence of smoker (jf that was the cause of COPD) one can suffer from passive smoking that is the only correlation between your mother's illness and your miscarriages.
Aggravation of other symptoms, medical science is limited in treatment of most. You can take OTC available folic acid) supplements, which might help.
If you could manage to XXXXXXX a doctor, his clinical examination and prescription based on hard evidence will most certainly help you.
With Best Wishes.

I appreciate sharing details at length with me and have nothing but good wishes to offer. I never for a moment thought that my answer about miscarriage as a result of passive smoking will be taken as insult, now it seems that it has been so. I regret that I offended you. That was never my intention. We, as a doctors community, like the patient who tell their history in detail. I assure you never for a moment I thought you were hypochondriac!
With Best Wishes.

No, I did not take any offence so there is no need for any explanation. Your thoughts are so insightful that I wish you had physical health to carry out all your wishes.
I understand your feeling about medicines that mess up thought, action and behavior and your desire to discontinue all such medications is perfectly justified. Please do not feel guilty about it. I appreciate your writing to me.
Do follow the advice in my earlier replies if you feel them worthy.
