How Can One Test For Symmetrical Neuropathy?

How do you test for symmetrical neuropathy? My father is 80 years old, approx. 5 6 and 160 lbs. He has always been active until a few months ago. He has developed pain in both thighs that hurts when he rises from a sitting position and when he climbs steps.

Hi,

Consult a neurologist to rule out neuropathy.
* Neurological Evaluation: A neurological examination may involve assessing your father's sensory perception, muscle strength, reflexes, and coordination. The doctor may use instruments like a tuning fork, pinprick test, or monofilament to evaluate sensory function.
* Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS): These tests measure the electrical activity of muscles and nerves. EMG involves inserting fine needles into specific muscles to assess their response, while NCS measures the speed and strength of nerve signals.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
