The paucicellular smear in a breast nipple discharge means that the sample collected contains less number of cells. This is a normal finding and is not indicative of any pathology. It is the cell type which is more important and not the number of cells.
The inflammatory cells or the cellular atypia is suggestive of infective cause or a malignancy.
