Brief Answer:
it would be better to avoid it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear

Thank you for reply.

Let me know about your seizure history and control over it.

Duramine is phentermine which is used to loss weight. So what is your weight now??

Though there is review in which it mildly elevated risk of seizure in normal individual.

But you have positive History so better would be avoid it to maintain your control.

As per my opinion, if you have a good control then it would be better to avoid it.

you can do lifestyles modification for weight loss like exercise and dietary control.

You have to consult endocrinologist for more evaluation of body mass index.

I hope I have answered your question.

Still if you have a query then feel free to ask.

Happy to help you further.

Wish you a very good health

Hello Dr Garala,

I undertand its better to avoid it however I am simply looking for a kickstart. I dont understand as my meals are nutrious and small portion, I walk daily, I am recently divorced with 2 children under the age of six its very difficult for me to get to a gym and do more. I have gained 20 kilos over the last 3 years which unfortunatly this has effected my self comfidence which obviously doesnt help with depression. My depression was what they call circumstancial ..very horrible marriage and nasty divorce .. in time I will no longer require the Prestiq. In regards to the epilepsy, as a very young child i suffered petit mal seisuzes, they put me on a small dose of epilim which controlled it for several years. I was able to go off this medication at around 12 yrs of age however 10 years after this i experienced a grand mal seizure. The neuroligst put it down to lack of sleep as I had been up for 48 hours, he put me back on the epilim with an increaced dose. Again I was seizure free for 14 years, another seizure, once again different neurologist said it was brought on due to lack of sleep with added stress at this point I had two babies under the age of 1 and a half hence the lack of sleep at this point the neurolgist was not surprised this had happened so we maintained the current epilim dose but added Keppra to the equation. This helped however unfortunate for me 3 years later I did experience another seizure. This time I was under an enormous ammount of stress, saddness and I was averaging only about 3 hours sleep per night. Two days leading up to that seizure I had skipped my medication. The neurologist this time did not increase my medication as he thought this incident was braught on purely due to my circumstances. I have been fine since, my life is a lot brighter too.

I am sorry for the long story here but I just wanted to give you an idea on my medical history.

Brief Answer:
still better to avoid it and do other consideration

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear.

Thank you for reply.

I appreciate that you gave such nice details.

You had emotional trauma and faced stress in your life.

Keppra and epilium both are good drugs for epilepsy. You have to stick on it becauase you have episodes in past in spite of taking medicines.
Just take precautions to prevent further episode.

proper sleep and diet is also necessary. Compliance to medicines and treat physical illnesses like fever as early as possible to prevent seizure.

It is like duramine do not always help in weight loss and it is beneficial to some extent but with the risk benefit ratio consideration I would advise to avoid it.

Because epilepsy control is the prime importance and weight loss is not that much.

Remain physically active and if you are not able to go gym then do at home.
Regular running and cycling can help.

Avoid medicine if any that increase weight.
Consult dietitian for proper diet plan.

But as per my opinion 1st priority is to maintain seizure free days and better neurological functioning.

I hope I have answered your question. Still if you have a query then feel free to ask. Always here to help you further.

Take care.
