Can I Contract Haemophilus Influenza In The Urethra?
Question: Can I contract Haemophilus influenza in the urethra? What would the symptoms be? I had a culture performed (3 to be exact). The one that was for STD's like chlamydia was somehow lost or unusable. The problem comes in when I get this information, I have been on Doxycycline for six days, so another culture may be useless. I did however test positive for Haemophilus influenzae. Symptoms were an itchy urethra and a yellowish discharge in the morning. Could these be symptoms of HiB or was it from something else? Should I have my wife check as well? Thanks in advance.
Brief Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM
Detailed Answer:
Urinary infection caused by h.influenza is possible as part of non-gonnococal urethritis, but it is uncommon and usually seen in diabetic and imunocomprmised patients or as hospital infections. Your symptoms can be caused by it as these are signs of any bacterial infection.
So in your case I would repeat std testing 3 days after the last doxicicline was taken. If there is still no std and there is h.influanze positive then you should switch antibiotic to piperacillin–tazobactam. YOur wife should be checked as well.
Wish you good health. Feel free to ask. Regards
