Can Methylprednisolone Taken Along With Triamterene/Hydrochlorothiazide?
Question: Is it safe to take Methylprednisolone 4 mg dosepk with triamterene-HCTZ 37.5-25 mg tab. (Doctor prescribed Methylprednisolone knowing I was taking triamterene.)
Brief Answer:
they can be taken together with caution
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
these pills can be taken together although caution is required particularly to potassium balance. Methylprednisolone tends to lower potassium levels. The same applies for HCTZ. Triamterene raises potassium levels. The balance cannot be predicted, so it has to be monitored.
Besides that methylprednisolone may worsen blood pressure control. The blood pressure has to be monitored as well.
Besides the aforementioned potential implications there are no contraindication for concurrent use of these drugs.
I hope it helps!
