Can An X-ray Harm Fetus During Pregnancy?
Question: I have just found out i am pregnant. I have been investigated for the last three werks fir a slipped lumbar disc. I have had an xray and mri of oelvis a werk ao, and prescribed tramadol ( only tolerated for two days), diclofenac which was changed to vimovo ( naproxen and esomeprazole) and stilpane. Has this pregnancy been doomed?
Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
Congratulations for entering the new phase of life and I understand your anxiety about it.
I would like to know the number of X-rays apart from MRI that you had.
In case it was just one X-ray then there is nothing to worry as it is harmful only in less than 0.5% of cases.
And if harm has been done there are many tests to see the amount of damage done which will be performed at various times.
So nothing much to worry but always mention your gynecologist about this history of X-ray.
Drugs are all safe but in general avoid diclofenac in future.
All the best
