Can An Hysterectomy Help In Retaining The Ovaries For An Adenomyosis Patient?
Question: I have adenomyosis. If I choose a hysterectomy can I keep my ovaries?
Brief Answer:
Can opt for hysterectomy
Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
Yes dear at age of 34 we will rather prefer to keep your ovaries especially when the indication of hysterectomy is just adenomyosis which has no bad impact on ovaries.
So you can very well go ahead with hysterectomy and opt for preservation of ovaries.
All the best.

Is hormone therapy necessary if I keep ovaries?
Brief Answer:
Not till 2 years at least
Detailed Answer:
Though most of the studies and text books say that there is no need of hormone therapy but my practical experience says that about after 2-5 years of hysterectomy somehow ovaries also have decreased output so women need to start Hormone therapy.

My dr says this is not cancer but could it be?
Brief Answer:
not cancerous
Detailed Answer:
No dear, this is not cancer and it rarely gets converted to cancer. The only problem is that it doesn't respond to any medical therapy and is only amenable to surgery as it only regresses after menopause.
Just relax from cancer point of view and in case you have any questions about it in future also please feel free to ask.

If I choose to have hysterectomy for this condition is it common to do it through the vagina and keep ovaries or must it be performed through the abdomen
Brief Answer:
Laparoscopy advised
Detailed Answer:
Vaginal hysterectomy with preservation of ovaries is a little difficult procedure technically so needs an experienced surgeon but can be done.
Better will be to opt for Laparoscopy instead.
