Can An Over-the-counter Colon Cleanse Cause Foul Odor On Face?

Question: Hi, my husband and I have been married for 5 years. He's never had an abnormal body smell, until recently on a vacation to a very humid climate I noticed a foul smell when he got close to me with his face, I assumed it was something he ate so he brushed and flossed and I got a little better. Well since then we've been back home and I've smelled it a few more times but it seems as though it's coming from his face not mouth. He hasn't changed his eating or cleansing habits or medication. The only thing I know is he started an over the counter colon cleanse then had two colonic irritations. It was after these when the smell started.

The colon cleanse is called Oxy-Powder, it was a 7 day cleanse which he quit after the 7 days. The following week he did a colonic irrigation at a colon hydrotherapy clinic using filtered water and then one more colonic cleanse at the same clinic. Nothing since then it was been about a month the smell appeared approx 1 to 2 weeks later.

Ozonated magnesium is the ingredient in Oxy Powder colon cleanse.

When a colon cleanse product is used, I believe, your husband has had smelly bowel movements. This is because of the elimination of anaerobic bacteria which are present in the bowels.

Next, as you had vacation in a place with high humidity, that might have caused increased production of oil from sebaceous glands making more prone to infections like fungus/bacteria.

Keep good hygiene, especially cleaning with hot water and soap to avoid clogging of the sebaceous glands.

Hi,

I've been trying to figure out triggers of this smell, and it's definitely when he consumes alcohol. Like I've said we've been married for 5 years and he's had alcohol all during that time but now he has this smell when drinking that he's never had before. We live in Louisiana so it always pretty humid here, if he sweats without alcohol he doesn't smell, so it's not just the humidity. I don't understand why this is happening to him now?

Hi back my dear,

If the smelling he is having is after consumption of alcohol, this is because alcohol is being cleared of the body through sweat,breathe apart being processed by the liver and cleared in urine.

If you live also in a humid place like Lousianna, if mixed with alcohol, the smelling can be intense and unbearable.

You are asking why now. There are two main reasons :
1. He has increased the amount of alcohol consumed
2. Your hormonal changes that might have changed your way of smelling

Ketones production can be another cause, I advise to measure his blood sugar levels and levels of ketones in blood and urine.
