Can Cervical Polyps Be Cancerous?
Question: I recently completed treatment for breast cancer (estrogen/progesterone +, stage 2b, grade 3). In preparation for surgery to remove ovaries, a polyp like heterogenous mass was found on my cervix. Can you tell me what the chance is that it is cancerous? Thank you.
Brief Answer:
polyps are usually non cancerous
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Cervical polyps are usually not cancerous. But you mentioned that there is a heterogeneous mass as well. In that case probability of cancer is higher. Maybe around 10%.
Was a biopsy done from the mass? If not, then it would be a good idea to get one done before the surgery. If cancer is proven, then surgery will be different.
Hope this helps.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX Does that reflect my history of cancer too? I worry about recurrence.
Brief Answer:
no this is unrelated
Detailed Answer:
This cervical polyp/mass is unrelated to the breast cancer. Hence the advice to biopsy it is not based upon the past history of breast cancer.
This is extremely unlikely to be a recurrence.
