Can Swelling Of Cervix Be Due To Copper IUD?

Hello Doctor, and many thanks for this service. I had a copper IUD inserted 5 days ago with minimal difficulty. I travelled overseas almost immediately, which required some heavy lifting of suitcases. Yesterday, the tenderness in my belly I'd been experiencing since the insertion got quite aggrevated and my cervix became swollen, dropping very low. I consulted a healthcare professional who said it was probably due to the heavy lifting. Would you agree? I've not seen many advisories to avoid heavy lifting and wonder if that's really all it is. Many thanks.

Hello,

You are suffering from swelling of the cervix after 5 days of copper IUD insertion. You also picked up heavy weight during travel. Since your cervix is presently swollen and dipping very low, you are suggested to get examined by a Gynae or health care provider to confirm if the IUD is at the right place (location). If not, it may need to be removed before it causes further damage.

If it is found to be at the right place then the symptoms may be due to hormonal imbalance, having relatively low estrogen or high progesterone may interfere with the body's ability to maintain healthy cervical tissue. Irritation or injury from birth control devices may also cause such symptoms.

Your symptoms may be indicative of cervicitis, an inflammation of the cervix. It may be caused due to infections, chemical or physical irritations, and allergies. If there is an infection, it needs to be treated with antibiotics, analgesics to stop the spread of infection to the other pelvic organs. Get clinically evaluated and treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
