Can Consuming Alcohol Post Colonoscopy Procedure Cause Any Risks?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Nov 2017
Question: I had a colonoscopy at 7.am. this morning. The procedure lasted about 15-20 minutes. Propofol was the anesthesia used for the procedure. Needles to say between the prep starting on Saturday and colonoscopy
conducted this morning I have been stressed. Would it be alright if I had a cocktail tonight at 7 p.m.?

Brief Answer:
normally wait at least 24 hours

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to be more than a little stressed.

Most medical centers advise waiting at least 24 hours after a procedure before taking any alcohol.

It would be best to wait till this time period has passed, if possible, before using any alcohol at all.
The reason for this is that the alcohol can worsen some of the side effects of propofol or other anesthesia.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
