Can Repeating Colchicine Dosage Help Treat A Persistent Gout Attack Pain?

Question: My doctor prescribed colchicine for treatment of occasional gout flare ups. I began experiencing the onset of a gout attack last evening and took the medication (two 0.6 mg tablets initially and one 0.6 mg tablet one hour later). This morning the affected area (big toe) feels as painful as last night. Should I repeat the dosage later today if there is no improvement? Obviously, I can't ask my doctor as it is the weekend and I don't consider a gout attack an emergency.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Pain killer is needed for relief.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
In addition to colchicine you also need to start with pain killers so that the pain and inflammation around the joint can subside. Repeating colchicine will only increase the urate excretion from the body. For symptomatic relief strong pain killers like naproxen and oral steroids are recommended.
I hope this answers your query.
