Can Syphilis Be Contracted Through Bodily Fluid Contact With Skin?
Question: Can syphilis be passed thru bodiliy fluids 6 years after a bump healed with no cure?
Well if i had some form of a bump, not sure what it was. The bump healed but i had no signs of stage 2 in the last 6 years(rash, fever, weight loss), could this indicate that it is not syphilis since stage 2 normally appears within a few weeks or so?
Brief Answer:
There are chances, but first it is evident in the patient before spreading.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam, I have gone through your query and understood your concerns.
During the first (primary) stage of syphilis, you may notice a single sore.
The sore lasts 3 to 6 weeks and heals regardless of whether or not you receive treatment. Even though the sore goes away, you must still receive treatment so your infection does not move to the secondary stage. Stage 2 as you said, occurs in few weeks. But it may not move to that stage sometimes and may stay latent.
The latent stage of syphilis begins when all of the symptoms you had earlier disappear. If you do not receive treatment, you can continue to have syphilis in your body for years without any signs or symptoms. Most people with untreated syphilis do not develop late stage syphilis. It usually occurs after 10-30 years. And when it occurs, its very severe.
So it has a chance to spread when syphilis is developed again after latent stage. As You asked it may spread even after six years, but before that it is prominently seen in the patient first.
Thank you
