Constant Headache After Head Injury. No External Bruise. Taking Nurofen. Is There Any Complication?

Question: Hi, A friend of mine was alcohol affected at a party on Friday night and fell heavily on his head/face (no-one else involved, he tripped on a step and hit his face and side of his head on the porch/steps). I am not sure if he lost consciousness. He has been complaining of a constant headache since then, his jaw is sore and he's been taking nurofen but it doesn't seem to be helping with the headache. I am concerned that the headache has been persistent for 4 days and he isn't sleeping well. He has no external bruising on his face or head. I think it could be more than just a headache. What should he do? Is this a sign that it could be more than just a bad fall?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

Most likely your friend has not suffered any XXXXXXX head injury.

However, please watch for the following warning signs- severe headache, repeated vomiting, double vision, decreased alertness, fits, etc. If any of these appear, he should go to the ER and get a CT scan of the brain done.

As of now, you can give him ibuprofen or diclofenac round the clock.
