Very near the end of my 11 1/2 yr old son s basketball game yesterday, he vomited on the court - very large amt , mostly water he consumed during the game (he had eaten an egg, toast, and OJ about 2 hrs before the game). He was in a slightly air-conditioned gym on very warm, oppressively humid day. His stomach had begun feeling sick in the beginning of the second half of the game. He denied feeling dizzy or lightheaded. His temperature was 99.3 orally. Shortly afterward he developed a headache. After a shower and some rest, his stomach felt fine and he was able to eat normally for the rest of the day. His temp remained at 99.3-99.4 for most of the afternoon, then by evening he was 98.6 and feeling fine except for a headache, for which he took ibuprofen 200 mg. He went to sleep between 7:30 and 8:00pm, and arose the next morning at 7:15 to prepare for a 9:00 basketball game. Feeling fine, he had 2 slices of toast w/ peanutbutter and a glass of milk. In the same gym, under the same weather conditions as the previous day, he played hard and played well. Then during the last minute of the game, came out out of the game feeling as he did the previous day before he had vomited. He had consumed about 24 oz of water during the game (two 14 minute periods). We took him outside to the air-conditioned car, and within about 20 -30 ,minutes he felt fine, no vomiting this time. When we returned home, his temp was 98.7, no headache this time, and no dizziness. He has played youth basketball for several years, andhas never had anything like this happen before. Your thoughts?
