Do Severe Pain And Swelling In Left Foot Suggest Deep Vein Thrombosis?
Could be Gout. Need to follow certain precautions
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Thanks for the query.
This isn't DVT. Not to worry.
Though, you could be having arthritis of the great toe joint. This could be Gout.
Apply ice to the painful regions. Use a hard soled shoe to walk around in. Avoid non vegetarian food as much as possible including their gravies. Avoid alcohol consumption especially beer. Avoid Avocado consumption.
Drink 2 to 3 litres of water daily.
Do get your Serum Uric acid level checked.
You can take Tablet Ibuprofen 400 mg twice a day for 5 days after meals and Tablet Ranitidine 150 mg twice a day for 5 days before meals.
You will also need to be started on Anti Gout medication once we confirm the diagnosis by a synovial fluid analysis, with the fluid aspirated from the joint.
Please get done an X-ray of the foot then upload it for my review, this week also help in making the diagnosis.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

DVT would cause a swollen, cold, calf. It's not there in your case, so not to worry.
Gout can occur due to metabolic disorder. Do get the blood test for Uric acid if possible.
Apply ice and avoid weight bearing to that foot. Keep the limb elevated as well. Ibuprofen will not cause any problems to your surgery.
