Does Change In Metabolism And Eating Habits Cause Distended Abdomen?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Jun 2015
Question: I had anorexia from ages 19-29, around age 29, I suddenly and rapidly went from 115 pounds at 5'5 to 150 pounds (same height). I'm now 31 with this same weight. I have not changed my eating patterns. I am in therapy and on medication. My stomach always looks distended. I hate this. I still restrict, I exercise, I am a very anxious and stressed person. Do my eating habits and history of anorexia (relatively severe) have any relationship to this distended stomach? Or am I just a fat person?

Brief Answer:
Body metabolism resets after significant weight loss

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Our body metabolism is a complex process. If we loose significant weight by dieting or by drugs or by anorexia then on improvement of situation our body start to regain the lost weight and our metabolism get shifted to such level that it tend to preserve fat for any future weight loss. So one probable reason for your distended abdomen is reset of metabolism. But this would not last for long time and with proper balanced nutrition and exercises the metabolism will come to normal levels.

Please dont restrict the dietary intake instead try to loose your weight by exercises. Take diets with excess of proteins and complex carbs and low in fats and refined carbs. This will help to loose weight and you will feel better.

Considering your height your weight is normal and your BMI is about 24.9 which is perfectly normal and you are not at all obese so no need to worry.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Please dont hesitate to ask again for more doubts.
