Hi,

"Metabolic work up" consists of measuring blood :
- glucose levels (to exclude diabetes or hypoglycemic problems)
- electrolytes levels
- kidney function tests (BUN, creatinemia)
- liver function tests (ALT, AST, bilirubin - total and direct, albumin)
- carbon dioxide

All these initial health screening tests are necessary to decide whether:
- one particular person is eligible to donor his/her kidney
- his kidney is well functioning
- his/her body won't suffer severe complications after the kidney will be removed
