Getting Pain And Swelling In Mouth Near Molar Teeth. What Could Be The Cause?
Question: I have got a pain from the last few days on one side inside the mouth in and around the walls near the molar. A little swelling is seen. Can be due to the teeth is coming, but have got no pains on the gums. I feel the pain only when i chew, and swallow, Please advise.

Thank you for the query. It is not clear whether the swelling is on the gums adjacent to the tooth which caused pain or posterior to the existing last molar. If the swelling is adjacent to the tooth then there is infection in the tooth either due to decay or due to deposits [tartar] around the tooth leading infection of gums.
If the swelling is at the back region of 2nd molar and 3rd molar [wisdom tooth] is missing then there is possibility of infection there. In such cases, the 3rd molar will be attempting to erupt, and part of tooth will be visible and the remaining part is covered by soft tissue. If the area in between the skin and the wisdom tooth is not kept clean then also infection will occur and causes discomfort.
For both reasons you are advised to visit the dentist and the x-ray done. The dentist may prescribe the required medicine/ do the treatment. Till you visit the dentist if pain is more then take mild analgesics and do warm salt water gargling.
