Question: My anxiety has been really bad over severe pain I have been getting for 2 weeks it feels like its in my chest under my breast goes around my ribs and up under my shoulder blade. I have been taking ibufrofen and paracetamol + codeine that the hospital gave me after I went there complaining of this severe pain 3 days ago. They did an ecg which was fine and said my pain sounded muscular or inflammation possibly costochondritis. The medications they gave me have not helped I'm still in terrible pain. Went back to doctor yesterday and he said possible stomach ulcers. I have gotten different diagnosis and still suffering. I'm also having a therapeutic massage today hopeing that helps. Can anxiety cause these pains or intensify them. I just want to be pain free and get on top of this anxiety. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Anxiety can worsen the pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
The kind of pain that you are describing appears to be that of musculoskeletal. And the distribution of the pain further suggests that the pain is arising from the vertebra. There is a problem in the nerve roots passing between the vertebral bodies most probably either cervical or thoracic vetebra. You will need to undergo a MRI scan of the whole spine to identify any abnormal compression.
Your posture at work or sedentary lifestyle causes this problem.
Coming to the issue of anxiety, yes, anxiety does cause worsening of pain but it will not originate the pain. Biofeedback therapy is a a therapy which can reduce your pain along with the meds but essentially the cause needs to be treated.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

If its nerve compression originating from my spine would a therapeutic massage and alignment help or worsen as I'm having this soon but don't want to aggravate the problem. I only want relief.

This will help

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your follow-up question.
Therapeutic massage and alignment will help.
You should go ahead with it. But if it still doesn't help then you should go ahead with an MRI.
Hope that answers your concerns,
