Having Severe Muscle Pain Throughout Body, Interstitial Cystitis. Difficult To Get Sleep. Treatment?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 May 2013
Question: I began having severe muscle pain 8 1/2 days ago (throughout body, mostly upper thighs, upper arms, back, abdomen & neck, w/intermittant lowgrade fever around 100, but went to 102 for a short time (on 7th day--prior to this I was taking NSAIDs which probably kept fever down). I had to quit the NSAIDs on the 7th day because they were causing my interstitial cystitis (i.e. which is usually in remission) to flare-up. I also have fatique, occassional racing pulse & head pain--but different from a headache, as pain only lasts a few seconds after abrubtly moving my head. 9 1/2 days prior onset of 1st symptom, I had a deep cut by dirty & rusty hedge clippers. I'm 46, female & approx 115 lbs, & normally have low pulse (below 60 due to exercise) & BP. I've not had tetanus booster since at least age of 12-14 & have not experienced pain or locking-up in my jaw, though neck hurt & intermittant head pain w/movement. I'm still having low grade fever & tonight will be 9 days--muscle pain is slightly more tolerable, but fatique is worse. The muscle pain is different than any I've experienced before & not like the type of muscle aches I've had w/colds or flu (i.e. which I rarely get--flu only once in my mid 20's & no cold in more than 5 yrs). It feels like my musclesl, incl. in my butt have all been stretched or pulled & are very painful, even when not moving or touching them--so painful, it's difficult to go to sleep & I've had little sleep in more than a week (i.e. waking-up as much as every hour). I have no other flu-type symptoms (i.e. resp. problems, cough, stomach upset, etc.). Also, I eat very healthy, all organic free range meats & eggs, gluten free (i.e. gluten intolerance) & lots of raw veggies. I rarely eat dairy, but have had raw milk cheese & my husband drinks raw milk from organic grass fed cows, on a weekly basis (brucellosis?). Count this be flu (i.e. almost 9 days in w/low grade fever), or possible tetanus, brucellosis, or something else (leptospirosis?). & should I see a dr, as the muscle pain is starting to get slightly less intense, but still have the fever? Also, my symptoms started near my cut (right arm) & next my right thigh area.

Hello,
Thanks for using health care magic for posting your query.
From the description that you have given, it appears that it could be very much a viral infection. It has all the complains that you have stated, the body aches, fever, ,muscle pains, respiratory problems , fatigue etc. It generally takes 2-3 weeks to get better. All you need to do is take plenty of rest, take plenty of liquids and take paracetamol when ever there is a fever.
When you find time, get a Complete Blood count done along with an ESR test. That will help in confirming the facts. A urine test and a chest x-ray should also be useful.
Regarding tetanus, it is unlikely that it could be tetanus but still you should get a TT injection as its way past 5 year XXXXXXX when you are supposed to take the prophylactic injection.
Its unlikely to be brucellosis or leptospirosis.
Hope everything turns out to be negative.
Wish you good health,
Thanks and regards,
