How Does Food Affect Oxycontin?

Food impairs absorption from stomach
Detailed Answer:
Hello
My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.
I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way.
Certain food decreases the rate of absorption of drug in stomach, as a result desirable effects are not achieved. oxycontin contains oxycodone which is a strong analgesic. Most of the food except fatty meal decreases its absorption from stomach mucosa. As it stays for longer time in stomach so gastric secretions decreases its effectiveness.
You mentioned about absorption of drug from liver, liver's main role is metabolism. There are a number of enzymes in liver whose function are to metabolize drugs and convert it to inactive form. After metabolism it is then excreted. In your case, 83% oxycodone is eliminated through urine by action of an enzyme present in liver.
> For Maximum effect:
To achieve maximum effects of oxycontin, take it with water and do not eat food 30mins before or after meal. Fatty meal can be taken because research has shown that fatty meal increases its absorption & potentiates its effect.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
