How Effective Is Flomax For Kidney Stones?

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Jun 2016
Question: Hello, I just got home from seeing a urologist, and he wants me to get ct/urogram scan and cysto.
I had kidney stones 2 weeks ago, and I had thought I had a uti last week, but it came up negative but showed
blood in my urine and white blood cells. I don't see the blood but it's microscopic. I don't have any pain urinating, but feel like I have to urinate more often. I'm praying it's not bladder cancer. He gave me Flomax
to help clean out any other stones that I might have but I'm not sure once I take this Flomax, Will I know if I have passed them, or will my frequency urination probably stop? It really feels like it's gotten better but not sure. Thank You for your time! XXXX

Brief Answer:
Flomax will cause dilation of ureter and help to pass down stones .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been detected to have stones in kidney 2 weeks ago .

The RBc and W.B.C that have been detected in routine urine test suggests presence of stone either in kidney or ureter associated with UTI.

The CT Urogram that your Urologist has advised will help to establish the diagnosis as regards size of the stone ,site of the stone .degree of obstruction and effect of stone on kidney function .

As regards your fear about the bladder cancer I would state that there is 0% possibility of cancer of bladder .Cancer of bladder always presents with gross hematuria (Frank Blood in urine).

Flomax will help to dilate the ureter and there by to pass down the stone if the stones are of less than 8 mm in size .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.

Hello Dr. XXXXXXX

Apparently, they did find gross hematuria in my urine, I do not see any blood when I urinate but I have never smoked, always have been in good health, I did a couple years ago have some non cancerous polyps removed from my cervix.
They did give me Flomax to hopefully get rid of the rest of the stones, but I'm just concerned about the gross hematuria that they have detected. Could this still be from passing of the stones, The stones are very small that I can's see them with a strain. Thank You, XXXX
