Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.
Generally chest infection presents with fever but in few individuals specially in young age and older age it may present as hypothermia although it is rare among otherwise healthy persons.
Loss of appetite and fatigue can also be present as symptoms of disease as well as medication like doxycycline.
Regarding recovery it generally one weeks for Doxycycline to clean the infective micro organisms from the chest but sometime may take upto 10 days.
I hope this helps you.
Thanks and regards.

I also been taking Sertraline 200mg for 6 weeks after bereavements last year. I had felt better by Nov on 150mgs, but by mid April i started feeling tired and low again. Its possible i had a virus then....thought it was hayfever...sticky eyes each morning. Could this have resulted in chest infection?
Brief Answer:
I do not think it was virus infection
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.
Virus infection cause fatigue but it is not responsible for decreased efficacy of sertraline which you are describing.
Chest infection is independent thing and I do not think there is casual relationship between depression, sertraline and chest infection.
I hope this clarifies.
Thanks and regards.

Surely though, a chest infection would lower my mood, make me feel exhaustion. The doxycycline alone causes tiredness. Like you, I doubt if doxycycline would interfere with Sertraline, but don't you think that chest infection alongside depression is going to make me feel worse?
Brief Answer:
That is what we expect but need to differentiate
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up and sorry for delayed reply.
What you think is exactly what any anybody can expect with respiratory infection no matter if he is depressed or not. I think we need to make difference between natural thing and interaction thing.
I meant to say that yes definitely infection will make you feel depressed but it will not interfere with working of sertraline.
This is our common observation that initial effective dose of antidepressant becomes ineffective over a time particularly in initial few months probably due to fact that there is initial effect needs booster dose to maintain it. Probably the same is applicable in your case as initial 150 sertraline became ineffective after few months.
I hope this clarifies.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for my future patients.
