What Causes Continuous Cough With Phlegm, Dry Eyes, Throat And Skin?
Hi I have had a cough that bring up balls of flem since christmas. Im couging all day and when I breath you can hear the mucus in my throat and chest. Also I get dry eyes, throat and skin with it. It almost feels like Hayfever symtoma. I drink at least 3 -4 pints of water a day and very healthy with my diet and exercise so i should be hydrated. My GP has given me Amoxyillin which I have been one for at 2 months 500mg. I started with a lower dosage and it has had no effect so I have stopped taken it. Just don t think it is good to be taken anti biotics for so long? I used to get a slightly high temp on occasions when I first had the symtons. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks

Hi,
Cough with expectoration for such a long period of time in spite of Amoxicillin as advised by your Doctor should be investigated further.
I would advise you he following:
* Tests of blood for diabetes, white cell counts, Eosinophilia, any other tests as required on clinical examination.
* X-ray or still better CT scan of chest.
* Phlegm for gram staining, AFB staining for tuberculosis, any fungal growth, culture and sensitivity.
* Pulmonary function tests.
All these would give best possible cause of your symptoms and if something specific cause is found then a specific treatment can be done.
