How Long Does Veltam Take To Remove Bladder Stones?

Posted on Tue, 14 Jun 2016
Question: Hi,

I have been diagnosed with a Stone of 4 mm in my left ureter at the ureterovesical junction. This has been confirmed in the CT scan although the Ultrasound and X-Ray were not able to confirm it.

I have a terrible pain in lower abdomen for 4-5 hours with difficulty in urintaion. During the pain, I am unable to urinate but feels like urinating.

The doctor has advised me to take Veltam 0.4 Mg once in night for 7 days and Drotin-DS in case there is unbearable pain. I have also been advised to take more of liquids to make the passage of stone in Urine.

Please suggest, how much time this medication takes the stone to come out and what are the chances that I may require an operation to get well completely.

Please suggest as to what all foods I need to avoid and what can be taken ( I am a pure vegetarian).

Brief Answer:
Continue taking Medications for 5 more days .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been detected to have stone of a size of 4 mm at the Uretero Vesical Junction of Lt ureter and have severe pain in lower abdomen with dysuria.

The pain in abdomen is not primarily due to stone itself but it is due to obstruction to flow of urine from kidney down in to ureter .This results in accumulation of urine in ureter proximal to the site of obstruction and kidney causing dilatation of ureter and kidney called as (Hydronephrosis).

In most of the cases the stone of a size of 7-8 mm usually pass down spontaneously however it is very difficult to predict precisely the time required for stone to pass down into bladder as it entirely depends upon the edema at the site of obstruction .

Continue taking medications prescribed and ensure to drink more water to produce more urine .

It should pass down within one more week .

As regards your query about food habits you can restrict intake of foods rich in oxalate and calcium like spinach ,toato , roots ,and milk products etc .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.
