How Should Artificial Tear Drops Be Used For Dry Eyes?

Question: Just few mins ago, i posted a query for my wife, 31 yrs old. PRK surgery done to her 9 months back and having dryness n so pain in her eyes. Dr checked n told everything is normal but still having that prbm. Here, one dr advised to use artificial tears in reply to my post. Can she use that artificial tear drops only in t night as t prbm is only in t night time? How long can she use that drops? Because it is already 9 months over since the surgery done. Is the drops itself enuf for her to cure this prbm permanently? Or is it a temporary relief? Dryness prbm leads to any other prms in eyes?
