I really appreciate your concern.
Generally non veg foods are not appreciated while practicing classical yoga for better results.
No gluten restriction or milk food restriction (unless he is allergic to it or has history of celiac).
However, full steamed cereals, millets, grains always preferable - it is easy to digest.
Avoid/minimize the frequency of taking fried item, half baked and container foods.
I know it is really hard to follow while residing in United states; but try to follow as much as possible.
Protein foods like almond, peanut, soya can be added in his regular diet. Add more fruits and vegetables what ever kind - that is more recommended.
As he is a growing boy he can take as much as quality nourished healthy food, preferably natural food. Avoiding junk foods, fried items, caffeinated drinks is highly appreciated. Because taking this kind of food will lead many physical and mental problems in a long course.
People form XXXXXXX who walk into my clinic really do not follow the dietary instructions closely. In this context, I really respect and appreciate your efforts about diet. But recent studies in western countries accepted food to have a great influence in our body mechanism. Therefore try to be as religious as possible with the diet.
