Question: Hi Doctor

I am 27 Female Unmarried. Previously i had prolonged period for 23 days. Had period by nov 15 ends by dec 8. It stopped naturally. During initial and final stages bleeding was low, in middle stage had heavy bleeding. Taken blood test for random glucose, Prothrombin, APTT, CBC, TSH and Pelvis scan. Everything is normal except presence of 16 and 17 small follicles in right and left ovaries respectively due to PCO. When actually should i get my next period? i got period again by dec 14. Only 6 days interval between the last and recent period. Lasted for only one day. Can i take the tablet starting from today. Doctor prescribed ovral tablet to take from 2nd day of period and also prescribed metaformin tablets. i did n't take metaformin tablets due to too much drowsiness and dizziness i had earlier. i could n't able to study for a long time. kindly suggest me doctor. This menstrual problem completely spoiling my mood.

Brief Answer:
Start the ovral today itself.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there, welcome to HCM,
Since you have been identified with having PCOS in the ultrasound and are having irregular, erratic bleeding its best that you take ovral tablets for 3 months to both regularize your period and decrease the number of days of flow.
yes Ovral will definitely help you with decreasing the number of days of flow and the amount of bleeding. This way your mood and quality of life will improve.
I will also urge you to take metformin once you are comfortable taking it as it helps with PCOS. You can start with a smaller dose at bedtime after meals to avoid the nausea affecting your day.
Also a healthy diet and exercise are very important in women with PCOS, especially if one is slightly overweight as a weight loss of just 5-6 kilos in itself will regularize the periods.
Hope this helps.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
Your next period should be in the 4th week of the ovral pills

Detailed Answer:
Yes, you can take them together. It will not be a concern to take them together.
Yes you can start 250 mg Metformin from tonite with your ovral and cna increase it to 500mg after 2 weeks, when you are used to taking it, then your body can tolerate 500mg better.
At 61 kg, if you get down your weight to 57 kgs , most of your period problems will go away.
The ovral pack has 28 tablets, 21 white and 7 red.
the 21 are the active tablets and they have to be taken for first 21 days followed by 7 red ones.
Its when you are on the red ones that you will be getting your next period.
Once you finish your 7 red ones, start the next pack of ovral with white one for 21 days.
Do this for three cycles and also take the metformin every night.
Hope this helps.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
3 weeks on ovral, 1 week off

Detailed Answer:
Then you need to take Ovral for 21 days, then stop, you will get your period in this pill free period, it will be a short period (less in amount and number of days).Start the next pack of 21 pills after 7 days. So if you start today, that's a tuesday, you start the next pack exactly 4 weeks from now.
Whether you are still having your period on that tuesday does not matter .
The way to take is 3 weeks on, 1 week off.
In some countries Ovral is available as white(active) 21 and red (inactive) 7 tablets.
Hope this helps.
