How To Manage Negatively Influential Parents Causing Mental Disturbances?
Question: My stepdad was abusive when I was a teen. I got into a fight with him 17years ago and he committed me to a psych ward.
Today, the thing I'm really worried about is weather they did ECT on me. Could it have been EEG? My memory is foggy. I remember the electrodes, but I just don't know if there was an I.V.
They forced me to sign a consent form, threatening me with the prospect of having to stay at the facility longer if I did not.
I'm not crazy! I work a full time job and pay all my own bills. The past is behind me, except for that incredibly burdensome thought. Please message me if you have time. Thank you so much.

Brief Answer:
After 17 years no psychiatry treatment can cause effects
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
You have been treated before 17 years in psychiatry ward. Details of any treatment is not known to you. You need not to worry whether it was ECT or EEG or medications as none of this can cause any problem after 17 years.
Please clarify what is exact current problem?
- What thoughts are disturbing you and since when?
- How much your life is affected with current problem?
- Are you still residing in same home or with your stepfather?
I will be happy to help further after your response.
Regards,
Dr Chintan Solanki.

I'm living on my own. Have been since I graduated high school in 2002. The negative stigma I was faced with in my up bringing has paved the way to my present state of mind. I'm not depressed like I use to be, but the stigma of inferiority immorality and insanity have left an imprint on my mind. I have trouble remembering things at work sometimes. I don't have much of a social life. Like I said, I'm not sad anymore. I'm just angry right now because that unresolved conflict showed itself again at a family gathering that I recently attended.
The environmental factors associated with my previous clinical depression were not taken into consideration by the psychiatrists who prescribed psychotropic drugs, like Zoloft.
When I was a kid:
My stepdad was a police officer. He disciplined me excessively. He patted me down like an inmate. He'd shine his flashlight into my bedroom window. He called me dirty names and used pressure point tactics on me.
By the time I was a teenager I was depressed for a damn good reason. I didn't have a "chemical imbalance in the brain" I didn't deserve to be put on dangerous meds.
Are you still reading? I hope I didn't bore you.
I NEED guidance and perhaps some kind of therapy, but I do not and will not trust a "psychologist" ever, ever again.

Hi,
Thanks for information and extremely sorry for delayed response as my laptop was not working. You did not bore me at all.
I can understand your feelings and pain you have been passed through. You are almost right that rather than medicines you need Psychotherapy. Your unresolved conflicts should be addressed properly through Psychodynamic psychotherapy. You need to find out some clinical psychologist who is good at such therapy.
Feel free to discuss further.
Take care.
