Is A HIV 1 RNA Qualitative Test Conclusive At 2 Weeks Post Exposure?
I have done unprotected sex on 16th Feb, 2015 and on 2nd March,2015 I have done HIV 1 RNA Qualitative test (sample type EDTA Plasma Blood) and HIV 2 real time PCR (sample type EDTA Plasma Blood). Both the results are negative and on 15th March, 2015 I did an HIV 1 and 2 + p.24 Ag (method CMIA) which was also negative and what test I should do now. I am really worried. Thank you.
You can consider your self as HIV non reactive....
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thank you for posting your query to healthcare magic.
I read, understand your question and reviewed the reports attached here, I am Dr Arun Tank answering your concern.
Sexual intercourse can cause HIV in only 0.1 to 1 percent of those exposed. Percentage for anal, vaginal and oral sex is 0.065 to 0.5, 0.05 to 0.1 and 0.005 to 0.1. From the above statistics it is clear that each exposure will not cause HIV.
PCR test is the gold standard test for HIV infection. Its result can be consider as final result after a week of exposure. Both RNA 1 qualitative and HIV2 PCR are PCR based test. So you can count its negative result as a final result.
So in my suggestion you are non reactive for HIV infection and need not require any further investigation.
You can ask me for further clarification here.
Thank you,
Dr Arun Tank
