Is A Blood Clot In The Heart A Cause For Concern?
Question: I suspect that my husband may have a blood clot. He was placed on a blood thinner yesterday (Eliquis) for A-fib, but I don't think the hospital checked for a blood clot (just checked his heart). Is there something else I should do?
Brief Answer:
Depends on symptomatology
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.
First it depends if there are symptoms of thrombotic incident in your body. Th Blood clots mainly develop in heart arrythmias so this should be checked first and if this is normal and there is no thrombus in heart chamber then there is no need to be worried. Other possibilities where clot may cause problems are if it occurs in deep vein of legs and in this case there would be swelling, pain and paleness of leg. Or it may happen in lungs but he would have respirator difficulties then. So if there is no any of these symptoms, then there is no need for any additional test but heart ultrasound which was probably done. Wish you good health. Regards
