Is A Hip Replacement Surgery Advisable When Having Congenital Hip Dysplasia?
I had a congenital hip dysplasia on both hips. I'm 42. Right leg is about 1.5-2" shorter. While walking, I get tied easily. But overall I'm healthy.
What is my prognosis? Will my limp be corrected?
Shortening can be partially corrected.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
You have congenital bilateral hip dysplasia. The hip replacement surgery will help in better mobility but it is not likely to correct the limp that you already have. The shortening of the leg is difficult to be corrected completely. There will be a certain improvement in your gait after the surgery. You need to discuss this with your orthopedic surgeon who after a direct examination can provide you the possible options.
I hope this answers your query.
