Is Brown Vaginal Discharge A Sign Of STD?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Dec 2015
Question: Hello Mia,
My name is xxxxxxxxxx
I am sexually active to a partner who had promised we were exclusive, turned out we were not. I have not seen him for two weeks. But am starting to notice a brown discharge along with a somewhat sore labia. My assumption is that it's because he is fairly bigger than most of my partners. But I am concerned nonetheless. I also could be spotting as I get my period in a few days. I'm just not sure what's going on. Might this be an STD?

Brief Answer:
STD a rare possibility in your case

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Since you have asked the same question again, I assume that I was not able to clarify the things to you.
Brown vaginal discharge can be present due to:
1. vaginal infection.
2. Premenstrual spotting which is commonly seen in IUD users
3. Any local lesion in cervix or vagina like polyp or erosion.
Labial swelling is usually found associated with vaginal infection.
However, the swelling can be totally unrelated to the vaginal discharge and can be due to change of soap or a reaction to the fabric of your undergarment.
Sexually transmitted disease do not present in this manner and have symptoms like thick foul smelling discharge, skin lesions like papules or blisters, or an ulcer, with or without fever.
You are not likely to have a STD.
However, a vaginal swab examination should be done to rule out any vaginal infection.
If present, then it should be treated effectively.
Do not worry, as it is least likely to be a STD.
I hope that I am able to explain you the situation more clearly. Please do get back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
