Question: I previously asked you what is "foot drop" but is "foot drop" the same as "leg contracture"? If not what are the differences?

Brief Answer:
Both are different.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Foot drop is not same as leg contractures. The contracture of the leg muscles or the joint stiffness or disease can cause a deformity like foot drop. It is just one of the many causes of foot drop. In case the muscle contracture is present since birth and the deformity is a major one then surgical correction of the contracture is recommended.
Regular physiotherapy can prevent the further progression by restricting the progress of muscle contractrure. The differentiation between the two can be done by EmG.
I hope this answers your query.

OK then since this lady I know appears to me like she has a foot drop and I am not a doctor but It just looks like foot drop to me, based on your explanation that foot drop can be caused by muscle contraction.
Also what is EmG.

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Yes. The muscle or a joint contracture can cause a foot drop. EMG refers to electromyography which monitors the muscle contraction in response to a electrical stimulus. In case of contracture a decreased muscle contraction will be noted. The muscle length can also be compromised. A physical examination by a neurologist will help in a proper diagnosis.
regards.
