Baby Cannot Straighten Knee. Xray Reports Normal, Waiting For MRI Report. What Disease Cause This Problem?
Hi, My 13 months baby cannot straighten her right knee . I notice that in the morning when she wake up, she usually makes her left leg straight while she cannot make the right one. When she practice to walk, the same problem happen. I took her to the hospital and had an x-ray but the doctor said that x-ray is normal. We are waiting for mri in a week later. I am so nervous now. What is happening with her knee? What disease cause this problem? Thank you so much. Sorry for my bad english.
Difficulty in straightening of the leg has many reasons. Infectious arthritis causes leads to restricted movement of the limb. However, infectious arthritis or septic arthritis is associated with pain and fever.
In your daughters case, there is no pain and no bony abnormality on X-ray.
This restriction in movement can be due to a soft tissue lesion.
This could be due to tight tendons or ligaments.
These details can be determined on MRI only.
You can go for MRI to determine the cause of resctricted movement.
There are several reasons for restriction of knee extension including infection, bone dysplasias, muscle contractures, etc. However, infection usually presents with a painful, tender, swollen knee and bone dysplasias would have been seen on Xray.
It would be better to wait for the MRI report and then proceed. Muscle contractures and other pathologies would be well seen on MRI.
Sincerely,
Vamshi
