Is Having An Itchy, Warm And Swollen Area After Bitten By An Insect A Concern?
Question: Last Wednesday, I think I may have gotten bitten by something, i.e. a spider or mosquito. It happened while I was sleeping. Here's the embarrassing part: bit on labia majora. The reason I think it was a bite was because initially, it was very itchy. There seemed to be a pink dot at the center of the bite. On Thursday, it got worse, swollen, hot, and over the weekend, I was just miserable. I called my doctor and have an appointment tomorrow. The bite was the size of a dime, now it has tracked into the labia minora, and it is the size of a golf ball. I don't have a temp. I've been soaking in a bathtub with Epsom salts. I made a poultice of Epsom salt that I put on a gauze. Although, I am confident that my doctor will assess the situation tomorrow, I am very uncomfortable tonight. Wondering if I should go to the ER. What do you think?
Brief Answer:
Continue Epsom salt and pain killers
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concerns about Vulval swelling.
I don't think there is necessity to visit ER. You can see your doctor as per schedule.
This appears to be infection and pus collection leading to such acute pain. This might need surgical drainage.
Meanwhile continue applying Epsom salt and take any pain killer available over the counter. This should help you to reduce pain till you see your doctor tomorrow.
Let me know if you need anymore help.
Regards
