Is It Normal To Have Persistent Foot Pain After 2 Weeks Of Injury?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: Hi. I tore 2 ligaments in my foot 2 weeks ago. Went to ER, had xray, and doctor confirmed that the ligament in the arch of my foot and on the outside of my foot were torn. Standard recommendation...ice, advil, rest.

2 weeks on, I'm still in a lot of pain, mostly in the morning, swelling, and now tingling in my toes. Also, the muscles on the front of my calf hurt when i walk.

Is this normal? I'm 44, female, extremely fit.

Brief Answer:
Persistent foot pain after 2 weeks may not be normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us,

I have studied your case with diligence.
Persistent foot pain after 2 weeks may not be normal.

I will advise you to use splint support for ankle and foot for 2 weeks.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and TENS will help in early healing of torn ligament.

I will advise to do MRI ankle for soft tissue involvement if pain remains persistent.
Till time you can continue physiotherapy and also use supportive splint or brace.

You can start tab tendocare for early healing of ligament consulting your doctor.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.

Could you advise on the potential reasons that I have continued pain and swelling after 2 weeks? As well, why would the numbness and tingling pain start now in my toes after so long?

thanks!

Brief Answer:
Explained below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Persistent pain and swelling can be due to ligament tear which was not healed.

Tingling and pain may be started because of persistent inflammation and swelling leading to nerve irritation and instability.
