Is Kidney Stone Removal Possible With Medicines?
2 weeks back my brother (Moorthy) has severe stomach pain and he consulted the nearest hospital.
They prescribed the medicine for pain and he was okay for next one day.
After that he felt there is a pain in the kidney side. He agian checked with same doctor. First they have taken the Ultrasound scan
and identified there is 3 stones in the Kidney. Then in the CT scan, the report has confirmed the stones.
There is 2 stones in the upper and 1 in the lower. Finally told, now the pain is because of lower stone only and have prescribed the below
medicine for pain and destroy the lower stone.
Is it possible to cure the kidney stone with medicine or any surgery required.
Medicine recommented by doctor:
1. Zanocin ranbaxy ofloxacin
2. Veltam intas tamsulosin
Please advise , can he continue the above medicine or is there any other medicine to cure.
What are all the foods have to take to avoid the kidney stone in future.
Have attached all the reports, Please have a look and advise.
With kind regards,
XXXX
Yes stone can be treated medically
Detailed Answer:
Good day and Thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!
Your brother has a single stone in the right ureter (the tube that connects the bladder to the kidney). It is lodged in the most narrow area of the ureter and i think he has around 80 % chance for it to pass on its own. Basing on the CT scan which is 99% in detecting stones he has no stones in the left kidney.
Yes he may continue taking the tamsulosin and the antibiotic Ofloxacin and he can wait roughly about two weeks. If the stone is still there after two weeks or he has intolerable pain uncontrolled by medicines then he can go back to the hospital and the stone can be removed using endoscopic techniques.
I would suggest a diet that is low oxalate and low purine since majority of stones are calcium oxalate and uric acid stones. He should also increase oral fluid intake to 2-3L / day the rest of his life to prevent stone recurrence.
