Is Leukopenia Hereditary?
Question: I am 67. I have mild leukopenia. My CBC & WBC values are all low normal or just below low normal (Lymphocyte = 0.9, neutrophil = 1.7), and have been almost identical for 18 years. My condition was noticed 18 years ago and I have had the tests done very 3 to 6 months since. I have no symptoms My spleen is borderline enlarged.
My sister (age 69) had her CBC & WBC taken for the first time recently. Her values were almost identical to mine. Can heredity be playing a role?

Brief Answer:
yes probably
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
There are syndromes of chronic leucopenia or neutropenia. These are actually hereditary.
As your condition is for 18 years and your sister is also having same problem, probably this is hereditary too.
But so far it seems quite benign. Hence nothing to worry.
Hope this helps.
