Question: Hi: This is an OTC diet aid with two sources of caffeine. A patient uses it probably thinking it is "phen-fen." It also has phenyethylamine in it. Aside from giving a person quite a buzz and depressing their appetite, I don't see a problem with her using it. She doesn't have any medical problems--i.e. no HTN, migraines, cardiac issues and so on. Any thoughts? Perhaps she should do Medifast?

Hi and thank you so much for this query.
The truth is that I generally don't recommend drugs for weight loss. This is because, if you take drugs to loose weight, it means you would need to be on drugs all your life to stay at a normal body weight. This is is simply not feasible and this is is the reason why most person would inevitably regain their weights once they get off their drugs because they failed to cultivate a healthy eating habit and rather concentrated on drugs.
The best way to loss weight is to eat less calories than you use in a day. This would lead to a gradual but long lasting decline in weight as opposed to drugs that give great short term results with little or no longterm durability.
She could take the drugs of go on medifast to accomplish the goals of weight loss. However, what is most important is the point that the client should be able to know that having self control on how much I eat in relation to my exercises,
should be balanced. My reason is simple, we cannot use a one time treatment plan to address an issue of weight in an individual and the society at large.
I hope this helps. I wish you well, Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to request for more information and clarification should need be.
Thanks.
