Is Pregnancy Possible After Cervical Conization?
Question: I have stage 1A1 cervical cancer with a 1mm focus in the center of the cone biopsy. The cancer was mostly removed with the biopsy and there is no indication that there is cancer in the walls. My oncologist is still recommending a total hysterectomy. I am still child bearing- and do not want a hysterectomy at this time. Is there any risk in declining a hysterectomy and waiting 6 months to redo a pap smear? Also what are the risks of pregnancy, both after a cone biopsy and with a cervical cancer stage 1A1 diagnosis?
Brief Answer:
Hysterectomy is ideal choice
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concerns about cancer cervix.
Cervical cancer is advancing at a later stage is a real possibility. Though the histopathology suggests focal adenocarcinoma, there is always a possibility of further extension and possible invasion of different parts of cervix extending to uterus and beyond.
I know you have strong desire to bear a child , but considering the life risk associated with such cancer I strongly suggest you should undergo total hysterectomy.
The risk of developing cancer again in remaining portion is more than 20 percent. Pregnancy chances are lower after cone biopsy.
Let me know if you need anymore help.
